A system of map building for long-term navigation of an autonomous mobile robot in an unknown environment

Annotation

In this work we present a system of building topological maps of an unknown environment, which is suitable for real-time operation. Additionally, we propose an algorithm of localization of a mobile robot in the built topological map, which is based on a neural-network place recognition and refinement of a recognized location by matching of 2D projections of the laser scans. The results of the experiments on different mobile robots, both indoors and outdoors, demonstrate practical effectiveness of the proposed system.
