The paper provides a study of cognitive structures of scientific texts within the framework of the activity paradigm. We define mental actions as actions that are aimed at constructing new or reconstructing already existing abstract objects. We consider mental operations as forms of an implementation of mental actions, which are typical for scientific communication. It is shown that mental operations form the cognitive structure of the scientific text. The study revealed the theoretical possibility of inferring a model of the cognitive structure of a scientific text. A formal representation of the mental operations used for the action "description of a new phenomenon for science" is proposed.
